ROOTS
TABLEWARE / 2012

Roots is conceptual tableware project that formed the basis for a set of plates by the same name designed for the Michelin star restaurant OLO, Helsinki. For that part we had the privilage to collaborate with chef Pekka Terävä whose passion for food equals our passion for design.

The created collection draws its inspiration from the roots of traditional farming and local, earthly produce. But the name carries also a link to the design process which involves the study of the form of ordinary root vegetables - like a chef choosing the best ingredients for a dish we searched for the best shape for a tableware.

The aim was to find an almost round shape with subtle organic shape that makes the same plate look different every time it is turned. Additionally, through the organicness, we wanted to give an industrially manufactured object the sense of handmade.
